Testers-German/Italian/Russian/Japanese/Chinese

JOB DESCRIPTION
- A localisation tester is expected to play through various genres games across all the different platforms (PC / Xbox / PS2 / Xbox 360 / PS3 / PSP / Wii / DS) they will be expected to be strong games players able to learn and master different styles of games very quickly.
- The games they test will be translated in to the relevant languages (one of either Japanese, German, Italian, Chinese, Russian or Korean. The main role of the localisation tester will be to check the translated text in the game, looking for context issues – making sure the text actually ‘makes sense’. They will also have to check the positioning of text and make sure it all fits. So, the ideal candidate will speak fluently in their respective language, as well as having excellent written and verbal English skills.
- A very keen eye for detail and methodical way of thinking typifies the better localisation testers, who should be very thorough and organised.
- Problems found by the localisation testers will sometimes be fixed by them, re-translations of incorrect text and shortenings of text which is too long for example. With this in mind, the applicant should have a strong knowledge of slang and colloquial terminology in their respective language.
- Localisation testers will be dealing with large text files, and preparing reports on the problems they find – a knowledge of PC office software (word/excel etc) is important, as is the ability to write reports in clear and concise English.
- Localisation testers will often have to work to tight deadlines, and this can involve long overtime hours and weekend work. An ability to work under pressure is therefore essential, along with the ability to work well with the rest of the team.
- Experience with translation or proofreading is a plus. We are less concerned with experience in the gaming industry – that said we will accept CV’s from applicants from any working background.
- Although this role is a great ‘stepping stone’ in to the video games industry, we will informally ask for a commitment of at least two years working here.
